Description

This is a fantastic collection of three mid-century automotive hood ornaments, quintessential pieces of post-war American car design reflecting the “Jet Age” and naturalistic styling. Included are what appear to be a 1951-1953 Dodge Ram hood ornament, a stylized 1955 Ford “Jet” airplane-like ornament, and a majestic Packard Cormorant ornament (likely from the late 1930s to early 1940s, based on the style). The ram and jet are streamlined, chrome-plated metal, indicative of late 1940s-1950s aerodynamic design. The Cormorant, also chrome-plated, is currently mounted on a rustic metal armature attached to a piece of white, porous material (stone or plaster) for display. The Ford jet ornament is captured from multiple angles, showcasing its sleek, pointed body and swept-back wings. The Dodge ram features the iconic curved horns and pointed body. All pieces show significant patina consistent with their age and use as exterior automotive parts: pitting, loss of chrome plating, surface scratches, and some areas of rust/oxidation on the mounting points and armatures. The condition is “barn find” and would be suitable for restoration or display as-is to capture their history. 1951-53 Dodge: 11″ long, 3.5″ tall (minus armature), 5″ wide. 1955 Ford Jet: 17.25″ long, 9.5″ wide, 3″ tall. Packard Cormorant on stone base w/armature: 13″ tall, 10″ deep, 5′” wide. See photos.
