Description

This lot features two distinct and highly collectible mid-century automotive mascots, a must-have for any serious collector of vintage car ornamentation. The first is a striking chrome-plated “Flying Lady” or “Diving Goddess” style hood ornament, reminiscent of post-war aerodynamic and space-age design. Its sleek, flying female form with swept-back wings is an iconic piece of the era from a 1955 Nash. The second is a beautifully rendered Packard-style “Cormorant” or swan ornament, featuring a gold-tone body and silver-tone, stylized wings, mounted on a long, streamlined base. The base of the female figure shows a visible part number or casting mark “2557541.” Both items are constructed of cast metal, likely zinc or pot metal with chrome plating, and show significant aging consistent with being on a vehicle. Condition: Both mascots show heavy signs of pitting, wear, and loss of the original chrome and gold-tone finishes across the surfaces, which gives them a desirable, “road-worn” patina. The reclining figure has a visible screw mount points on the underside of its base. The cormorant-style mascot shows heavy corrosion and wear to the long, tapering base and visible mounting holes on the underside. Dimensions: 1955 Nash: 12″ long, 6″ wide, 4″ tall. Packard style “Cormorant”: 12″ long, 7.5″ tall, 5″ wide. See photos.
