Description

This collection features a curated selection of (6) authentic Japanese tosogu (sword fittings), possibly dating from the Edo period. The set includes two iron tsuba (hand guards)—one featuring a classic openwork sukashi design and another with remnants of gold nunome-zogan (damascene) inlay depicting a dragon or floral motif. Accompanying these are two fuchi (hilt collars) with intricate relief carvings—one showing floral motifs and the other stylized kanji characters—along with two seppa (spacers). These pieces showcase the transition of the sword from a pure weapon to a work of art, emphasizing the craftsmanship of the metalworker. The items show significant signs of age, including a dark, heavy patina, surface oxidation, and some loss to the gold inlay, which is consistent with historical field use and storage.
