Description

An exceptional collection of World War II-era aviation prints on small cards, each autographed by the respective pilots, providing direct provenance and connection to the most storied aerial combatants of the conflict. The set includes nine cards, featuring detailed pencil sketch-style drawings of iconic combat aircraft: the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress (signed by Harry Crosby), the Hawker Typhoon (signed by a pilot I cannot decipher), a Supermarine Spitfire (signed by Don Blakeslee), the North American P-51 Mustang (signed by Kenneth Taylor), another Supermarine Spitfire (also signed by Don Blakeslee), the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt (signed by Mike Quirk ), and two examples of the German Messerschmitt Bf 109, one signed by Robin Olds and another by an unknown signatory. The presence of multiple highly decorated airmen, including famous aces and commanders like Robin Olds (known for his service in both WWII and Vietnam) and Don Blakeslee (a key commander in the Eighth and Ninth Air Forces), significantly elevates this collection. The cards are white cardstock prints. Condition: Overall excellent. The cards show minimal wear, with clean, highly legible signatures and inscriptions in black ink. There is no visible fading, tears, or creases. Part of the John Bannister Collection. H 4″, W 6″, D 0.05″ See photos.
