The John Bannister Collection - D-Day and Militaria
Lot 1091:
Description
A fantastic grouping for the WWII aviation enthusiast, comprising four high-quality, limited edition pen-and-ink style art prints of iconic WWII fighter aircraft, along with a signed photo of a notable ace pilot Charles H. Older. The set includes detailed profiles of the formidable P-51 Mustang, the shark-mouthed P-40 Warhawk (likely depicting a Flying Tigers aircraft), and two other single-engine fighters, one a Japanese Zero (A6M). Each print is meticulously annotated with details like the type of aircraft, dates, and what appear to be edition numbers (e.g., 14/150, 13/150), and they are all signed by the artist, M. H. F. The central piece is a black-and-white photo of an aviator, Pilot Charles H. Older, who was a member of the legendary Flying Tigers (AVG). The photo is hand-signed by Older, adding significant historical provenance. The collection is in excellent overall condition; the prints appear clean and flat with crisp detail, and the signature on the photo is bold and clear. There is a small postcard also signed by Older. Interesting side note, later in his civilian career, Older was the presiding judge in the notorious Charles Manson trial. Part of the John Bannister Collection. H 11″, W 17″. See photos.
