Description
Nice example of a “rope hole” last ditch rifle. The hole was made to accommodate a rope sling as a last ditch effort to produce guns in spite of declining resources. This is an all matching gun (898) including the firing pin & safety ( there is no Number on the bayonet lug. The stock shows typical nicks from use & is still in very presentable condition with wood butt plate attached with 3 nails, The forestock is loose as they were a separate piece. This gun is purported to be the highest serial number in the 12th series which would make it the last gun made, We believe this is the actual gun shown on page 104 in “The Military Rifles of Japan by Fred L. Honeycutt Jr,
