Description
Model M1851 belt buckle worn by U.S. officers during the Civil War/ Indian Wars. Measuring 3″ wide by 2-1/8” tall. Solid cast bronze. Officer buckles had the wreath cast in the design, not applied like NCO’s. Central image of 13 stars with rays above and right-facing eagle below a worn “E Pluribus Unum” banner on a pebbled background. Nice deep features hiding under tin layer of patina. Rear of the buckle has a loop to secure to the belt end and a flat loop hook to clasp the belt on the wearer. Overall condition is good, with a darkened overall look on entire surface. A likely dug specimen. This buckle was part of the Civil War and Indian War display at Donley’s Wild West Town Museum for 45 years.
