Civil War Auction
Lot 6:
This M1851 buckle and belt rig appears to have the buckle pattern #657 from O’Donnell & Campbell book. It has crisp detail with thicker eagle neck, uniform pebbled background, thick eagle legs and broad brass tongue. The keeper has broken away and is missing. The leather of belt and straps is folded leather over canvas with backside center seam. All the fittings are brass and overall condition is fair with missing keeper and discoloration of buckle front. Leather is fairly dry but fully flexible. It is an interesting late Civil War rig.
