Civil War Era Remington 1863 percussion Contract Rifle in Very good vintage condition with light wear. The steel is a dark patina, wood is very nice with sharp cartouches. Remington manufactured 12,501 of these rifles between 1862 and 1865. These two band single shot muzzleloaders have a 33 inch round blued barrel with a bayonet lug on the side, brass hardware, casehardened lock and brass patchbox.
The lock is marked ahead of the hammer with an American eagle over a US, and under the bolster REMINGTON/ILION, N.Y. and the date 1863. The barrel is marked with the date, 1863. STEEL and inspectors initials (R.K.A.). The barrel is blued and the lockplate is case hardened. All brass hardware is an untouched dull patina.
