Description
This is a fine example of the 12 button M1858 cavalry shell jacket and is unmarked in both armpits. Left armpit has very basic “I” or “1” inked in it. The lining is gray and white wool worsted cloth. All the buttons match. One collar button is held in place with a straight pin. The buttons are plain, thin neck eagle general service pattern. The condition is excellent with the cavalry worsted piping still in fairly bright colors. The 12 button holes show light wear. The blue wool body is in fantastic condition – no mothing and very light wear. The lining has partial repair to center seam. This is a classic, in very fine condition shell jacket.
