Description
This 9-button frock coat has nine matching thick neck front buttons and 3 buttons on each cuff. Two of the cuff ones appear to be period replacements. The tail back has 3 buttons. All the buttons have “I” for Infantry and the buttonholes show much wear and use with crude repairs to last two holes. The Captain shoulder boards are made with metal “faux” bullion, and the infantry blue fabric centers are very faded and show some mothing. The fine dark wool body shows wear and age. The right armpit has a crude sewn repair, and the other armpit has a small hole and some moth holes. There are scattered moth holes throughout the coat from the back of the collar and around the collar edges. The holes hide well exceot for the 2″ hole on the left upper sleeve where someone has inked the white lining peeking through to hide the hole. The material is a very high-quality wool. The unmarked lining is an olive-colored quilted material and also shows much wear and age. This frock coat is a “no-brainer” uniform from the war, and it has a great deal of character.
