Hand-Carved Wooden Folk Art – Wild Bill Hickok, a legendary American Old West lawman, scout, marksman and gambler, one of the earliest and most famous gunfighters, solidified his deadly reputation in a famous quick-draw duel against Davis Tutt, while playing poker in a saloon, he broke his golden rule and sat with his back to the door, Jack McCall walked up behind him and shot him in the back of the head, scattering his final poker hand: pairs of black aces and black eights, forever known as the “Dead Man’s Hand”, artist carved “VIT” in bottom, initials of a talented regional woodcarver that has deep roots in waterfowl decoy carving, the texture work on the clothing and boots strongly mimics the “feather texturing” techniques used by wildlife carvers to give wooden birds a realistic look before paint is applied, figurines have been in storage for 40 years, were going to be put on display at Donley’s Wild West Town, minor scuffs, good condition, 12″ x 6 1/2″
