Lot 1009:
Description
This is an authentic early 20th-century Edison Gold Moulded Record wax cylinder from the National Phonograph Co. of Orange, New Jersey, featuring record #600, “Safe in the Harbor,” as sung by tenor Joseph Natus. A wonderful piece of early sound recording history, the cylinder is accompanied by its original felt-lined cardboard storage container featuring a portrait of Thomas Edison, along with an identification slip detailing the song title and artist. The wax cylinder exhibits surface spotting, heavy cloudiness, and organic mold growth typical for its age, which will affect playback quality, while the container shows moderate edge wear, scuffing, and minor tearing to the paper label. H 4.5″, W 2.75″, D 2.75″. Please see photos for condition. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection.
