The Allen Koenigsberg Phonograph Collection
Lot 3433:
Description
This exceptional vintage ephemera lot centers on the pioneering achievements of Thomas A. Edison, primarily highlighting the promotion of his landmark phonographs and Amberol records from the early 20th century. As an avid historian of early sound technology, I find this collection particularly compelling; it features prominent promotional brochures such as “Ten Special Amberol Records Practically Free,” an illustrated “Eject-O-File Co.” cabinet pamphlet from High Point, North Carolina, early Christmas advertising from the National Phonograph Co. of Orange, New Jersey, and a vibrant, heavily embossed “Inventor” portrait card showcasing Edison himself. The collection also captures mid-century commemoration, including an Edison Institute Museum and Village guidebook from Dearborn, Michigan, a unique die-cut “Greatest Show” circus-style folding brochure stamped by Hjort’s Music Store of Ottawa, Kansas, and a 1940 MGM promotional herald for the biographical film Edison, The Man starring Spencer Tracy. Visually preserved on period paper stock with authentic typography and lithography, the entire group is in good vintage condition, exhibiting minor handling wear, light edge toning, and occasional soft creases or surface smudges consistent with age. Measurements for the key pieces range from H 6.5″, W 4.5″, D 0.1″ for the postcards up to H 9.5″, W 7.25″, D 0.1″ for the largest film herald. Please see photos for condition. From the Allan Koenigsberg collection.
