Description

Here is an Allen & Thurber, .32 caliber, six-shot pepperbox percussion pistol, with 3-inch barrels manufactured in Norwich, Connecticut, during the 1830s to 1840s era. This piece features the iconic bar-hammer design stamped “ALLEN’S PATENT” on the top and “ALLEN & THURBER / NORWICH C-T” along the side of the hammer. The pistol boasts a steel construction with a hand-engraved scroll pattern on the frame, a ring trigger, and elegant dark wood grips inset with a silver oval escutcheon. The steel surfaces exhibit a dark patina with surface pitting, minor oxidation, and scattered light scratches consistent with its significant age. The wooden grips remain intact with a deep, aged finish showing minor dings, handling wear, and small scuffs. The stamped markings remain legible. Mechanically, the action and trigger are tight and appear to function properly. The bore does show some oxidation. Please see photos for overall condition. Classified Antique.
