Lot 2315:
Description
This piece is a classic German “Reservistenkrug,” or regimental stein, traditionally commissioned by soldiers of the Imperial German Army to commemorate their period of active service. The stein features a tapered cylindrical porcelain body decorated with hand-painted scenes, including regimental insignia and a roster of names, identified here as the 142nd Infantry Regiment (which was the 7th Baden Infantry Regiment, headquartered in Mülhausen). It is topped with an ornate pewter lid featuring a soldier finial and a decorative thumb lift. The base conceals a lithophane—a translucent porcelain relief that depicts a scene when held to the light—which is a hallmark of authentic period pieces. The stein is in very good physical condition, displaying no visible cracks in the porcelain, with well-preserved decorative enamel and metalwork. H 11.5″, W 4.25″, D 4.25″. Please see photos for condition.
