Lot 1046:
Description
Here is completely restored U.S. Springfield 1884 Trapdoor rifle chambered in .45-70. This is the final major variant of the U.S. Army’s standard-issue single-shot, breech-loading rifle. The Trapdoor rifle saw extensive use during the American-Indian Wars, and many were still in service with secondary units during the Spanish-American War in 1898. Manufactured by the Springfield Armory, more than 232,000 Model 1884 long arms were produced between 1886 and 1891. This particular rifle was manufactured between 1890 and 1891 and all metal work has been completely refinished. The stock, which has been re-laminated, displays a cartouche dated 1891. Minor scratches are visible on the butt stock from light use and storage. Bore is super clean and the rifling is prominent. Mechanically, the action and trigger are tight and appear to function properly. This is nice original Trapdoor that has been professionally restored. Please see photos for overall condition.
