Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1436:
Description
This is a magnificent, full-body taxidermy mount of a Wild Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo), presented in a naturalistic, walking pose with its head alert and slightly lowered, characteristic of a mature Tom. The dark, iridescent brown and black plumage is well-preserved, showcasing the signature gray-brown tail feathers and darker body feathers. The bird is securely mounted to a simple, rustic wood plank base with a rough, earthen texture, which itself appears to be set atop an older, distressed wooden cart or box base, adding to the rustic presentation. Taxidermy work of this scale and detail is highly sought after by collectors of natural history, lodge decor, and sporting enthusiasts. The condition is generally Good to Very Good for a vintage mount; the plumage shows expected settling and some dust accumulation, and the exposed skin on the head and neck has a dry, aged appearance, but there are no obvious signs of major feather loss or damage. The mounting appears stable on its base. H 20″, W 13″, D 39″ From the Western display in Donley’s Wild West Town. NOTE: Pickup/transport required. Contacts available post auction.
