Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1435:
Description
This is an exceptional example of a museum quality full-strut Wild Turkey taxidermy mount, a classic piece of American sporting art often found in rustic lodges, man caves, or, as seen here, in the eclectic environment of a Donley collection. The bird is mounted in a dramatic, three-dimensional display, showcasing the full fan of tail feathers, the iridescent bronze and copper plumage of the body, and the characteristic blue, white, and red coloring of the head and neck. The bird is set atop a substantial piece of gnarled, natural driftwood, which provides an aesthetically pleasing and sturdy base, elevated on a custom-made metal stand. The quality of the taxidermy appears professional, capturing the bird’s aggressive posture with its beak slightly open. The condition is very good, with vibrant feather coloration and no immediate signs of shedding or damage; however, as with all taxidermy, some dust accumulation is visible in the feathers, and a sticker is present on the driftwood base. Measurements: H 39″, W 22″, D 24″. From the Western display in Donley’s Wild West Town. NOTE: Pickup/transport required. Contacts available post auction.
