Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1437:
Description
This is a well-executed example of taxidermy featuring a Black Bear cub (Ursus americanus). The cub is posed in an engaging full-mount, standing upright on its hind legs in a classic, inquisitive posture, characteristic of North American taxidermy from the late 20th century. The natural dark brown/black fur is retained, and the cub exhibits the common tan/brown muzzle coloration often seen in these mounts. It is secured to a simple, rustic wooden base that appears to be a section of driftwood or natural log, with some white mounting material visible around the feet. The quality of the mount appears professional, with realistic glass eyes and attention paid to the details of the paws and claws. The item appears to be in very good condition with rich, intact fur and no major visible defects such as tears, matting, or significant fading, though the surrounding storage environment is evident. H 42″, W 12″, D 17″. From the Western display in Donley’s Wild West Town.
