Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1270:
Description
This is a quintessential piece of American Arts and Crafts furniture, likely dating to the early 20th century (c. 1905-1915). Its stature at 28.5 inches tall makes it ideal as a substantial console table, hall table, or narrow dining/desk table. The piece is constructed entirely of premium quarter sawn white oak, which is confirmed by the visible, highly desirable ray fleck grain pattern on the end caps—a hallmark of high-grade construction consistent with manufacturers like Gustav Stickley’s Craftsman Workshops. The deep, nearly black color suggests an original or early ammonia-fumed finish, which was highly favored for White Oak during this period. Its robust, straightforward construction features a heavy trestle base with arched cutouts and exposed through-tenon key construction, offering superior structural integrity. The item shows age-appropriate wear, including minor surface scratches and wear to the dark finish consistent with over a century of use. H 28.5″, W 36″, D 24″. NOTE: Pickup/transport required. Contacts available post auction.
