Description

This is a beautiful example of an Arts and Crafts or Mission style footstool, likely dating from the early 20th century. It features the classic rectilinear design hallmarks of the movement, with visible joinery and sturdy, squared legs. The frame appears to be constructed of solid quarter-sawn oak, visible through the dark, warm brown stain, which is typical for pieces designed in the spirit of Gustav Stickley. The top boasts a thick, removable cushion upholstered in what looks to be a supple, dark oxblood or chocolate brown leather, adding a rich contrast to the wood. The exposed joinery, including what appears to be pinned or pegged mortise-and-tenon joints on the uprights, enhances its period appeal. The piece is in very good vintage condition; the leather shows light, natural creasing consistent with use but no major tears, and the wooden frame is solid. The finish appears to be a darker, more saturated color than is typically found on unrestored pieces of this era, suggesting it may have been professionally refinished or restained at some point—a detail often sought after by buyers who prefer a crisp, uniform look. Only minor expected surface wear and patina are visible. H 10″, W 18.5″, D 12″ NOTE: Pickup/transport required. Contacts available post auction.
