Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1268:
Description
A fantastic example of a small-scale Arts & Crafts/Mission-style four-shelf bookcase, likely crafted from quarter-sawn white oak, given the visible grain. The design is quintessentially period, featuring through-tenon construction suggested by the exposed pegs on the side stiles, which secure the shelves and end panels. The top rail, which extends into the stiles, features heart-shaped cut-outs, a charming detail sometimes associated with specific manufacturers, though it’s not a definitive mark. The deep, warm brown fuming or finish is characteristic of pieces intended to complement a Craftsman interior. The piece appears to be in overall good antique condition, exhibiting the expected patina, minor scuffs, and surface wear consistent with age and use. H 40″, W 15.5″, D 8.25″ (Shelves).
