Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1267:
Description
This is a beautiful example of a Craftsman or Arts and Crafts period four-tier stacking bookcase or open shelving unit, likely dating to the early 20th century. The clean lines, visible joinery, and use of solid, dark-stained quarter sawn oak are all hallmarks of the style, which prized honesty in construction and materials. The side supports have characteristic cutout or pierced details, adding a subtle decorative touch without sacrificing the rectilinear form. While there are no visible manufacturer marks, the style is strongly evocative of pieces produced by major firms of the era, though it could also be a local cabinetmaker’s work. The item is in good, used antique condition. There is evidence of use, including surface scratches, some fading and dust accumulation on the shelves, and general wear consistent with its age. The overall structure appears solid and stable. H 40″, W 30″, D 11.5′
