Description
This rectangular woven basket from Akimel O’odham (Pima) of the American South-West dates circa the 1930’s. This design features a typical geometric meander around the walls of the basket. The base of the basket features what looks like a large capital I. The Pima utilize devils claw for the dark contrasting weave. There is evidence of burning, visible from marks on the interior base. There is a repair on one corner and a break on another corner. The whip stitched edge retains 90 percent of its edge, with small loss of material. Dimensions: 7.5” ling x 4.25” wide x 2.5” tall.
