Description
Hand-Carved Wooden Folk Art – Bill Longley, a ruthless Texas gunfighter and outlaw, one of the most violent and cold-blooded killers of the Old West, claimed to have killed 32 people, he famously survived an extrajudicial hanging, a mob lynched him, but as they rode away, someone fired shots into the air and one bullet luckily severed the rope, dropping him to the ground alive, his luck ran out when he was captured and sentenced to death…by hanging, however, due to a botched rope length, his feet touched the ground, forcing the guards to physically hoist the rope back up to finish the execution, artist carved “VIT” in bottom, initials of a talented regional woodcarver that has deep roots in waterfowl decoy carving, the texture work on the clothing and boots strongly mimics the “feather texturing” techniques used by wildlife carvers to give wooden birds a realistic look before paint is applied, figurines have been in storage for 40 years, were going to be put on display at Donley’s Wild West Town, minor scuffs, good condition, 12″ x 6 1/2″
