Description
Antique Albert Pick Cast Iron Kitchen Press, manufactured by Albert Pick & Co, Chicago, IL, used as a fruit, lard or sausage press, turning the large top wheel lowers the heavy iron screw plunger into the cylinder, forcing juices, rendered fats, or fluids out of the small front spout, the strangest use of this was making the “Duck Press”, a wildly dramatic French delicacy in which a roasted duck was cooked and meat carved off, remaining carcass was stuffed directly into the cylinder, the maitre d’ would turn the giant wheel tableside, crushing the bones to squeeze out every drop of fresh blood and marrow, the freshly pressed juice was mixed with cognac and liver to make a rich sauce, completely structurally intact, shows typical surface wear, heavy coat of oxidation, outer cylinder shows heavy flaking, the perforated strainer basket is missing, fair condition, see photos. 16″ x 14″, 37lbs Great industrial look works as a unique decor piece, planter, bookend, doorstop or converted to a table lamp!
