Lot 2517:
Description
This lot features two distinct wooden waterfowl decoys that tell a story of regional craftsmanship and utility. The smaller, more refined piece is a “hand-crafted in Florida” duckling made from native Florida Cypress, signed by “Franke” (marked D32M). It showcases a beautiful, dark-stained finish and smooth, stylized lines typical of 20th-century decorative folk art. In contrast, the larger piece is a rugged, primitive working decoy body with a weathered, “shabby chic” patina, showing remnants of original grey and reddish-brown paint and featuring lead weights and a pull-ring on the underside. The larger decoy is in fair, well-worn condition, missing its head and showing significant wood checking and paint loss consistent with heavy use. The smaller Cypress duckling is in excellent condition with only minor surface dust. H 4.25″, W 5.5″, D 13.5″ (Large); H 3.5″, W 3.5″, D 6.75″ (Small). Please see photos.
