Description
Winchester Model 1873 Lever-Action Carbine Rifle .44-40cal. A true icon of the American West, this is a Winchester Model 1873 lever-action rifle, often nicknamed “The Gun That Won the West.” The barrel displays the inscription “WINCHESTER’S-REPEATING-ARMS, NEW HAVEN CT / “KING’S-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED” which refers to the critical Nelson King patent of 1866. King’s improvement was the addition of the now-famous side-loading gate and the integral, sealed magazine tube that was covered by a fore-end. The upper tang is stamped “Model 1873” and the lower tang accompanying serial number “1276324”, which places the manufacturer year of 1899. This rifle features the signature side-loading gate, a 20″ round barrel, a classic lever loop, an adjustable ladder-style rear sight, and a saddle ring on the left side of the receiver. The buttplate includes the characteristic trapdoor. The rifle presents in heavily used condition, consistent with its age and history as a working firearm. The bore shows freckling, and the rifling is prominent. The trigger and lever action are tight and function. Please see photos for overall condition. From Donley’s Wild West Town Museum. Overall Rifle Length: 38.75” / Barrel length: 20”. S/N: 127632A. C/R Eligible
