Description

This expansive, artisan-crafted Southwest desert diorama beautifully showcases two distinct Navajo or Hopi-style Kachina (Katsina) dolls mounted on an elaborate, hand-adorned terrain base. As revealed on the wood-slice doll bases in image_4.png and image_5.png, the lot includes an “Eagle Dancer” hand-signed by artist R. Mitchell and a “White Owl” hand-signed by F. Largo. The dynamic figures feature natural feathers, soft faux fur, wood, and hand-painted traditional attire, set amidst a meticulously detailed miniature landscape scattered with Southwestern cultural artifacts, including small pottery vessels, a woven basket, a tiny woven rug, miniature animal fetish carvings, turquoise nuggets, and natural stones. The custom display features a large, clear acrylic vitrine cover with a built-in mirrored back panel designed to showcase details not seen from the front, all resting on a tiered, molded wooden base as pictured in image.png. This late 20th-century artisan display is in excellent vintage condition overall; the signed figures retain vibrant pigmentation and tight textile detailing, the natural feathers show minimal, expected ruffling from handling, and the protective acrylic vitrine displays light surface scuffs.
