Description

An original June 21, 1912, Friday evening edition of the Taunton Daily Gazette from Massachusetts, this newsprint page is a stellar example of early 20th-century show promotion. The visual highlight is a large photograph of “Miss Ray Thompson” performing a “high school” horse routine for the “Young Buffalo Wild West and Col. Cummins’ Far East” show, which was set to parade through Taunton that day. The page also functions as a fascinating directory of period commerce, featuring illustrated advertisements for local mainstays like the Finnegan-Leach Shoe Co., Hayward’s Rubber Store, and J.B. Barnaby Co. While the paper shows expected age-related toning, there is significant “ratty” chipping and paper loss along the top margin and upper right corner, though the central graphics and text remain bold and legible. Included is the single newspaper page and its protective plastic sleeve; the wooden poster frame and floor tiles shown in the images are explicitly excluded. H 22.5″, W 18″, D 0.1″. Please see photos for condition.
