Relics of the American West: 1850-1920
Lot 2170:
Description
This framed, historical replica of the “Flag of the New Orleans Grays” captures the spirit of the Texas Revolution. Featuring a light blue field with a central eagle emblem and the text “First Company of Texan Volunteers! From New Orleans,” this piece represents the famous military volunteer company that traveled to Texas in 1835 to fight at the Alamo and San Antonio. The textile is housed in a handsome gold-toned wooden frame with a deep burgundy fabric mat and a descriptive brass placard. Objectively, the flag display exhibits manufactured faux aging, including heavy, intentional mechanical weathering, frayed threads, and multiple open holes along the fabric edges designed to mimic a battle-worn antique relic, while the original remains preserved in Mexico. The frame itself shows minor surface scuffs and dust along the edges. H 18.5″, W 25″, D 2″. Please see photos for condition.
