Relics of the American West: 1850-1920
Lot 2152:
Description
A beautifully crafted Plains-style Native American reproduction hide cape yoke, featuring a striking beaded Thunderbird central motif rendered in seed beads against a solid white field, bordered by classic red and light blue beaded geometric bands. The soft tan buckskin or suede hide is finished with an extensively long, hand-cut fringe along the lower edges; notably, the piece remains unfinished, as evidenced by the clear, hand-drawn pencil layout markings on the back for additional design work that was never completed. This fascinating glimpse into the maker’s process presents beautifully for display or regalia use and is in overall very good condition, showing light handling wear, minor creasing to the hide, and minimal dust from storage, with the existing beadwork remaining tightly intact. H 12″, W 34″, D 1″. Please see photos for condition.
