Lot 2137:
Description
This historical group features seven early 20th-century postcards and a modern Tununak Tribal Police patch from Alaska. The collection is highlighted by three rare Real Photo Postcards (RPPCs): a 1907 scene of branding horses at Yakima featuring a native cowboy, a 1910 “Branding Slickears” scene from the Flathead Reservation, and an undated portrait of a native cowboy on horseback wearing distinctive woolly chaps. Also included are four color-tinted lithographic cards, such as “Squaw & Papoose” (copyright 1905), “Washington State Siwash Indian Basket Maker” (postmarked 1906), “Kiowa Papoose Asleep” (postmarked 1907), and a “Sioux Chief”. These cards represent notable publishers of the era, including the Illustrated Postal Card Co. of New York and Leipzig. Complementing the vintage items is an embroidered Tununak Tribal Police patch from Alaska featuring the Qaluialmiut Tribal Council seal. The postcards are in good vintage condition with visible corner wear, light foxing, and authentic postal cancellations. The police patch is in excellent, unused condition. H 3.5″, W 5.5″, D 0.1″. Please see photos for condition.
