Description

This collection features authentic Plains Indian beadwork, headlined by a magnificent lane-stitched knife scabbard. Expertly crafted on brain-tanned buckskin, the pieces showcase traditional geometric motifs—including the Lakota “Kapemni” design—rendered in a classic palette of cobalt blue, greasy yellow, and white seed beads. The construction utilizes period-correct natural sinew and tight whip-stitching, common in late 19th-century Sioux or Cheyenne handiwork. The lot includes the primary scabbard with a trade knife, a fringed small bag, a strike-a-light pouch with tin cone tinklers, and a horsehair quirt. The leather across the collection possesses a rich, aged patina. While the scabbard is in remarkable condition, other pieces show honest wear including minor bead loss and leather stiffening consistent with age.
