Description

This is an exceptional reference lot for the early talking machine enthusiast, featuring six specialized titles that trace the evolution of recorded sound technology. From a collector’s perspective, the star of this group is a signed, inscribed 1927 first edition of The Romance of the Gramophone by T. Lindsay Buick, published by Ernest Dawson Ltd. in Wellington, New Zealand, complete with the iconic “His Master’s Voice” Nipper illustration. Accompanying it is an early 1892 copyright copy of A Practical Guide to the Use of the Edison Phonograph by James L. Andem for the United States Phonograph Co. of Newark, NJ, a 1971 Allen Koenigsberg facsimile edition of The Phonograph and How to Use It, a red comb-bound edition of The Patent History of the Phonograph 1877-1912, a 1977 University Microfilms dissertation print titled The Making and Use of Recordings in Broadcasting Before 1936 by Michael Jay Biel, and the 1989 Dutch publication Spreekmachines by Harry Belle. The collection shows expected age-related wear, including shelf wear to the edges, moderate foxing and toning to the interior pages of the older volumes, minor cover staining, and a crease on the comb-bound cover, but the text blocks remain structurally sound and completely legible. Stacked: H 5″, W 11.25″, D 9″. Please see photos for condition.
