Lot 2050:
Description
This lot features three fascinating, early 20th-century cloth-bound volumes covering diverse historical areas of science and industry. Included is a 1903 London edition of Indiarubber and Gutta Percha by T. Seeligmann, G. Lamy Torrilhon, and H. Falconnet (published by Scott, Greenwood & Co.), a deeply detailed historical and chemical treatise on early polymers. Accompanying it is a 1936 first edition of American Martyrs to Science Through the Roentgen Rays by Percy Brown (published by Charles C. Thomas), which contains a warm, handwritten personal inscription on the flyleaf: “To my friend Allen with best regards, and much success. Collie Read”. The third book is The Recording and Reproduction of Sound by Oliver Read (published by Howard W. Sams & Co., revised second edition). The books show expected age-related shelf wear, fading, dust dulling to the cloth covers, and bumped corners, though the bindings remain intact and the interior pages show only mild toning typical of their age. H 4.25″, W 9.75″, D 6.5″. See photos.
