Phonograph Records And Books Auction - ONLINE ONLY
Lot 2031:
Description
This highly collectible assortment of vintage literature and niche reference texts is anchored by a rare, limited first book edition of Garrett Putman Serviss’ Edison’s Conquest of Mars, published by Carcosa House in Los Angeles, California (1947), hand-numbered 932 of 1500 copies. This headline piece features striking mid-century illustrated endpapers and its original retro-futuristic illustrated dust jacket. An exceptional addition to the lot is Leroy Hughbanks’ Talking Wax or The Story of the Phonograph, a first edition published by The Hobson Book Press in New York, NY (1945), providing a rare wartime perspective on recorded sound. The collection is rounded out by S. J. Begun’s Magnetic Recording (Rinehart Books, Third Printing, 1951), Frank Adams’ plastic comb-bound Jukeboxes 1900-1992 Volume I (AMR Publishing Company, First Edition, 1992), and a modern print-on-demand historical volume from Leopold Classic Library. All books are included as pictured. The items show light to moderate wear consistent with age, including bumped corners, edge scuffing, and minor page toning; notably, the Edison’s Conquest of Mars dust jacket shows significant paper loss, tears on the rear panel, and external tape reinforcement. H 4″, W 11.5″, D 9.25″. See photos for condition.
