Description

This exceptional collector’s lot features five vintage reference books and periodicals focusing on the history and evolution of early talking machines, phonographs, and American jukeboxes. Included in this compilation are Discovering Antique Phonographs 1877-1929 by Fabrizio and Paul (Schiffer Publishing, 2000), a first edition of From Tin Foil to Stereo: Evolution of the Phonograph by Read and Welch (Howard W. Sams & Co., 1959), a rare limited edition piece from Editions Shimmy titled Shimmy: Musik – Technik – Werbung 1850 – 1950 (No. 50 of 150, published in France, 1996), Cal Stewart’s classic Uncle Josh’s Punkin Centre Stories (Stanton and Van Vliet Co., copyright 1903/1905), Frank Adams’ Jukeboxes 1900-1992 Volume I (AMR Publishing), and an early volume of the German periodical Phonographische Zeitschrift. These volumes offer an invaluable wealth of historical data, illustrations, patent drawings, and manufacturer insights for the dedicated audiophile or antique music machine historian. The items exhibit expected vintage wear, including minor scuffs to the covers, corner bumping, some spine discoloration, and page toning consistent with age, but remain tightly bound and fully legible. Stacked: H 5″, W 11.5″, D 9.25″. See photos for condition.
