Phonograph Records And Books Auction - ONLINE ONLY
Lot 2014:
Description
This remarkable trio of vintage volumes offers an exceptional look into the life and legacy of Thomas Alva Edison, anchored by an incredibly scarce science fiction classic. Included in the lot is a limited first edition of Garrett P. Serviss’s Edison’s Conquest of Mars (Carcosa House, 1947), hand-numbered 752 of 1,500 copies. Accompanying it is an ex-library copy of William Adams Simonds’s Edison: His Life, His Work, His Genius (George Allen & Unwin Ltd, London) featuring its original Northampton Shire County Library markings, alongside Andre Millard’s Edison and the Business of Innovation (Johns Hopkins University Press) complete with its original dust jacket. Tucked inside the Millard volume is a highly compelling, original two-page 1991 letter from noted phonograph historian Allen Koenigsberg to the author, serving as an editor’s proof that meticulously details factual discrepancies in the text—a phenomenal artifact for any serious historian. Condition varies across the lot; the books show expected shelf wear, minor corner bumping, and age-toning to the pages, with the Simonds volume retaining standard library stamps and inserts, while the dust jacket on the Millard book shows light scuffing and minor edge wear. Stacked: H 4″, W 9.25″, D 6.25″. Please see photos for condition.
