This exceptional collector’s lot features five essential reference books detailing the history and mechanics of early talking machines, including a 1971 facsimile of The Phonograph and How to Use It, a first edition copy of From Tin-Foil to Stereo signed and inscribed by author Oliver Read on Jan. 28, 1960, a 2005 revised edition of Look for the Dog, George L. Frow’s 1982 publication The Edison Disc Phonographs, and a 2005 revised and expanded second edition of The Talking Machine by Fabrizio and Paul, which includes its accompanying vintage recordings music CD. Written primarily for historians and enthusiasts of late 19th to early 20th-century audio technology, these volumes feature paper pages with cloth-bound and paperback covers published across the United States and Great Britain. The books show minor shelf wear, light edge scuffing, and minor fading or discoloration to the spines and covers consistent with handling, though the interiors remain intact and legible with strong inscriptions.
