Description

This lot features a sophisticated pair of horological specimens: a French-made Bailey Banks & Biddle Co. brass carriage clock and a mid-century Junghans “Repetition” alarm clock. The carriage clock is a true standout, boasting a heavy brass-and-glass case with a mercury-compensated pendulum—a classic Victorian-era design for maintaining accuracy—and a movement stamped “France”. Its porcelain dial remains crisp with elegant numerals and the prestigious Philadelphia retailer’s mark. The movement chimes on the hour and half-hour. Accompanying it is a robust German Junghans alarm clock with a distinctive gunmetal-finish case and a luminous black dial. Both pieces show gentle signs of age; the brass carriage clock exhibits minor surface oxidation and tarnishing consistent with its era, while the Junghans clock shows light wear to the finish on the outer bezel and rear casing. Both are described as operational. Larger clock: H 12″, W 7.25″, D 5.25″; Smaller clock: H 5.25″, W 4.5″, D 3″.
