The Top 300! - Spring Classic Part 2
Lot 258:
Description
This elegant Art Nouveau table lamp features a cast spelter female figure in a fluid, draped pose, characteristic of the French “Belle Époque” style from the early 20th century. The figure stands on a rocky-style base, which is mounted to a turned wooden plinth. Two graceful, vine-like arms extend upward to form floral-motif sockets. A standout feature of this piece is the pair of beaded glass “bouquets” or shades, consisting of delicate blue and white glass flowers on wire frames with beaded tassels, designed to clip over the bulbs. The piece exhibits the organic symmetry and romanticism found in works by makers like Auguste Moreau or Hippolyte François Moreau. Regarding condition, the lamp is in functional order with a working vintage dimmer switch; however, there is significant flaking of the original bronze-tone patina on the figure’s right arm and upper torso, revealing the grey/white pot metal underneath. There is also a small chip on the wooden base and general wear to the metal finish consistent with age. The beaded shades appear largely intact and the clip mechanisms are functional. H 21″, W 10.5″, D 6″. Please see photos for condition.
