Description
The Columbia Grafonola Deluxe, often referred to by collectors as the “Lions Head” model, is an ornate, upright phonograph introduced in 1909. It is most famous for its elaborate cabinet design, which features hand-carved lion heads at the top of the columns. While sold as a standard 78rpm phonograph, the Deluxe includes a Regina disc music box.
The cabinet is mahogany and features curved, sliding louvered doors that allows the user to control the volume of the internal horn when playing the phonograph. The Regina disc music box uses a 15.5-inch double comb “short bedplate” movement, which is highly regarded by collectors as one of the best-sounding music box mechanisms ever produced.
The bottom portion of the cabinet provides ample storage, partitioned for either shellac records or metal music box discs, depending on the model. In overall VG playing condition with an older refinish on the cabinet which is also in VG condition. Comes with original crank, turntable, 12 -15.5″ music box discs with Christmas favorites. Titles are: Silent Night, O Tannenbaum, Jingle Bells, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, Adeste Fideles, It’s A Long Way To Tipperary, Ben Bolt Song, Marching Through Georgia, Swanee River / Old Folks At Home, Home Sweet Home, Star Spangled Banner. Also includes 12 -78 rpm records. Measures 50″ tall, 24″ wide, 20″ deep.
