The Allen Koenigsberg Phonograph Collection
Lot 3549:
Description
This historical archive consists of 21 pieces of turn-of-the-century talking machine ephemera, representing a rich cross-section of early commercial recorded sound history. The collection contains highly graphic business correspondence, itemized retail invoices, and promotional circulars from a variety of notable industry pioneers and regional operations. Key pieces include an ornate 1908 illustrated letterhead from the Hawthorne & Sheble Manufacturing Company of Philadelphia, two meticulously filled-out 1908 receipts from the iconic Iver Johnson Sporting Goods Co. of Boston listing early phonograms and individual records, a beautifully decorative 1922 typed letter from The Phonograph Shop Inc. of Oklahoma City, multi-page promotional health circulars regarding recorded physical culture courses from Health Builders of Oyster Bay, and a fragile 1899 handwritten postal request on cardstock from Cope & Townsend of Hardy, Arkansas. This expansive paper lot remains structurally sound but displays an authentic, heavily aged character consistent with its era, showing visible handling wear, multi-tonal paper browning, perimeter edge chips, original mailing folds, and scattered areas of minor water staining or ink fading that do not compromise textual readability. H 11″, W 8.5″, D 0.1″ (standard correspondence sheets); H 7″, W 8.5″, D 0.1″ (Iver Johnson receipts); H 8″, W 6.25″, D 0.1″ (Montana Phonograph items). Please see photos for condition.
