The Allen Koenigsberg Phonograph Collection
Lot 3547:
Description
An exceptional archive of late 19th and early 20th-century typewriter correspondence and documentation, this collection is a remarkable survivor for any business technology historian. The lot includes promotional brochures, invoices, and beautifullytyped letterheads representing legendary names of the mechanical writing era, including Remington Standard, The Hammond Typewriter Co., Underwood, the American Writing Machine Co. (for “The New Century” models), The Typewriter Exchange, and a notabframed advertisement for the Edison-Mimeograph Typewriter. Adding immense historical depth is an original cabinet-card-style photograph depicting a turn-of-the-century office interior complete with clerks, bookkeepers, and an early typewriter in use, stamped on the reverse by W.F. & Co.’s Express dated October 12, 1898. The paperwork is rendered on a mix of period linen and standard legal-size papers, showcasing magnificent vintage typography, graphic logos, and colorful corporate seals. Physically, the collection is in good antique condition, showing age-appropriate toning, minor edge tears, light creasing, and occasional staining or ink smudges that entirely align with historical office use. H 11″, W 8.5″, D 2″. See photos. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection.
