The Allen Koenigsberg Phonograph Collection
Lot 3475:
Description
A fascinating collection of early 20th-century advertising ephemera related to the Victor Talking Machine Company, dating from around 1905 to 1907. The lot features five paper envelopes—four of which showcase the iconic “His Master’s Voice” Nipper logo and are from the Talking Machine Department of Cressey & Allen in Portland, Maine, addressed to Carroll J. Dunn of Franklin, Maine. The fifth envelope, from John F. Ellis & Co. in Washington, D.C., is addressed to J.C. Lane and contains its original, multi-page record catalog insert. This partial brochure lists early single-sided disc records by legendary artists of the era, such as Arthur Pryor’s Band, Billy Murray, and Emilio de Gogorza. The items exhibit expected age-related wear, including significant water staining on several envelopes, minor tearing and creasing to the paper edges, foxing, and a missing cover on the internal brochure insert, but the text and iconic graphics remain bold and highly legible. H 3.75″, W 6.5″. Please see photos for condition. From the Allan Koenigsberg collection.
