The Allen Koenigsberg Phonograph Collection
Lot 3415:
Description
An exceptional archive of early 20th-century Thomas A. Edison phonograph and record promotional literature, published by the National Phonograph Co. of Orange, New Jersey. This historic ephemera lot features a rich assortment of paper materials that captured the dawn of the recorded sound era, including seven issues of “The New Phonogram” booklet dating from 1905 to 1911, three larger “The Phonogram” newsletters from early 1913 (Vol. IX, Nos. 7, 8, and 9 covering January, February, and March), an “Edison Blue Amberol Records” French catalog from October 1913, an “Edison Records American Selections” catalog, an “Edison Recent Record Releases” pamphlet featuring Al Lynn, and an “Edisononic” promotional booklet showcasing Muriel Pollock. These pieces offer an incredible window into period graphic design, marketing tactics, and regional dealer stamps, such as the Paterson Talking Machine Co. of New Jersey. The collection is in fair condition overall, exhibiting age-toning, edge wear, minor creasing, and small chips typical of historic newsprint and paper, with the October 1905 issue of “The New Phonogram” showing more significant surface and edge wear, while several other booklets have been preserved in protective plastic sleeves. The smaller booklets measure approximately H 6.25″, W 3.5″, D 0.1″, while the larger newsletters measure approximately H 9.25″, W 6.0″, D 0.1″. Please see photos for condition.
