The Allen Koenigsberg Phonograph Collection
Lot 3401:
Description
An exceptional find for any collector of early talking machine history, these original paper ephemera patent notice labels were issued by the National Phonograph Company of Orange, New Jersey. Dating from the turn of the 20th century, these documents were intended to enforce strict pricing and patent regulations regarding Thomas Edison’s phonographs, records, and blanks, specifically warning against the unauthorized removal or alteration of serial numbers. The lot includes two distinct variants: Form No. 310, printed on light cream paper, and Form No. 157, printed on a darker Kraft-style paper featuring an ornate graphic border and listing the 135 Fifth Avenue New York Office address. Both pieces are housed in protective plastic sleeves. Objectively assessing their condition, Form No. 310 displays moderate surface staining, creasing, and minor edge wear consistent with its age, while Form No. 157 displays significant irregular paper loss along the top edge, alongside general aging and minor corner creasing; both items are blank on the reverse side. H 3.5″, W 6″. Please see photos for condition. From the Allan Koenigsberg collection.
