Description

A magnificent artifact from the dawn of cinema, this original 1895 French scripophily document is a share certificate for “L’Edison’s Kinetoscope Français (Société Anonyme).” Issued in Brussels on March 15, 1895, with administrative headquarters in Paris, it represents five ordinary shares of 100 francs each (numbered 3161 to 3165). This rare piece offers a direct connection to Thomas Edison’s commercial expansion of his pioneering Kinetoscope motion picture peep-show technology into the European market just as the film industry was being born. The certificate features an ornate engraved border, official stamps, corporate signatures, and a complete, intact sheet of 20 unclipped dividend coupons. It is in excellent antique condition, exhibiting minor edge wear, minimal handling, natural paper aging, and a clean center fold line that preserves its vibrant graphics and text. H 13.75″, W 21”. Please see photos for condition. From the Allan Koenigsberg collection.
